Live Blood Analysis & Dry Blood Analysis

Understanding your nutritional status, eating habits, and the unique way food reacts in your body is central to achieving long-term health. Live Blood Analysis and Dry Blood Analysis are two complementary diagnostic tools that provide a window into your internal health environment — revealing information that standard lab tests often miss.

Live Blood Analysis

A drop of blood is obtained from the fingertip using a sterile lancet and observed immediately under a darkfield microscope at up to 1000x magnification. Unlike standard lab tests that look at the quantity of blood components, Live Blood Analysis focuses on the quality of blood — revealing how diet, lifestyle, and stress are actively affecting your body in real time. The process is displayed on a monitor so you can see your own blood as your analyst explains what they observe.

Dry Blood Analysis

A blood bead is pressed onto a microscope slide eight times and left to dry for 15 minutes. The pattern that forms as the blood dries undergoes significant changes that can help detect and monitor inflammation, identify its source, and reveal imbalances that would not appear in a standard blood panel.

What Live & Dry Blood Analysis Can Reveal:
  • Immune function and white blood cell activity
  • Free radical damage and oxidative stress
  • Cardiovascular risk markers
  • Nutrient deficiencies and malabsorption
  • Digestive disorders and bowel inflammation
  • Heavy metal toxicity and toxin levels
  • Parasite activity and yeast overgrowth
  • Inflammation — acute or chronic — and its source
  • Lymphatic burden and protein metabolism issues
  • Thyroid and endocrine imbalances
  • Anemia and red blood cell abnormalities
Maryam Abbasian is NatCan’s Live Blood Analysts — available at both our Vaughan and Woodbridge clinic locations.

Why Nutrition & Diagnostics at NatCan

The Power of Knowing What Is Actually Happening in Your Body

Most health approaches treat symptoms. NatCan’s nutrition and diagnostics services go deeper — identifying the root nutritional and biochemical factors driving your health concerns before prescribing a plan.

🔍
See Your Blood in Real Time

Live Blood Analysis gives you an unprecedented view of your own biology. Watching your blood under a darkfield microscope — displayed on a monitor during your session — reveals exactly how your diet, stress, and lifestyle are affecting you at the cellular level right now.

🌿
Catch What Standard Tests Miss

Standard lab tests measure the quantity of blood components. Live and Dry Blood Analysis looks at quality — revealing inflammation, oxidative damage, toxin burden, and nutrient deficiencies that would not appear on a routine bloodwork panel.

📋
Evidence-Based Nutrition Planning

Sofia Kalamaris is a regulated Registered Dietitian — not a wellness coach or online nutritionist. Her plans are built on clinical education, current research, and a thorough health assessment. Every plan is tailored to your specific health status, goals, and lifestyle.

FAQ

Common Questions About Live Blood Analysis & Registered Dietitian Services

What is Live Blood Analysis and how is it different from a standard blood test?
Live Blood Analysis involves placing a single drop of blood from your fingertip directly onto a microscope slide and observing it under a darkfield microscope at up to 1000x magnification — while the blood is still alive. This is fundamentally different from a standard lab blood test, which processes and quantifies specific blood components (red cell count, white cell count, iron levels, etc.) in a laboratory. Live Blood Analysis looks at the quality and behaviour of your blood cells in real time — how they are shaped, how they are moving, whether there are signs of oxidative damage, inflammation, toxin burden, or nutrient deficiencies. It can reveal patterns and conditions that standard bloodwork panels are not designed to detect. Dry Blood Analysis adds a complementary method that examines the pattern of dried blood to identify inflammation sources and other systemic imbalances.
Is Live Blood Analysis safe?
Yes — Live Blood Analysis is completely safe. It requires only a single drop of blood obtained from the fingertip using a sterile, single-use lancet. The procedure takes seconds, causes minimal discomfort, and carries no meaningful risk when performed by a trained analyst using proper sterile technique. Maryam Abbasian is NatCan’s trained Live Blood Analyst and follows strict clinical protocols for every session.
What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Naturopathic Doctor for nutrition advice?
Both Registered Dietitians (RDs) and Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) can provide nutritional guidance, but their training and scope differ in important ways. A Registered Dietitian is specifically trained in food science, nutritional biochemistry, clinical dietetics, and disease-specific dietary intervention at a university level — and is regulated by the College of Dietitians of Ontario. RDs are the primary regulated professionals for medical nutrition therapy and are the professionals most recognized by the healthcare system for dietary management of specific disease states like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and renal disease. An ND’s nutrition training is part of a broader naturopathic curriculum that also covers herbal medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, and other modalities. At NatCan, both professionals are available — and many patients benefit from seeing both as part of a coordinated integrative care plan.
Can a Registered Dietitian help with diabetes?
Yes — and Sofia Kalamaris brings specialized expertise as a Certified Diabetes Educator in addition to her work as a Registered Dietitian. A Certified Diabetes Educator has extensive knowledge in the management and education of all types of diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, gestational diabetes, and prediabetes) and has passed a specialized board exam in this area. Sofia can help clients understand their diagnosis, tailor their diet and lifestyle to prevent or delay onset, and teach evidence-based strategies for managing existing diabetes to prevent the long-term complications associated with poorly controlled blood sugar.
Do I need a referral to see the Dietitian or Live Blood Analyst?
No — you do not need a referral from your family doctor to book an appointment with Sofia or Maryam. Both practitioners accept self-referrals and new patients can book directly through our JaneApp online booking system or by calling our clinics. Many patients are also referred to Sofia or Maryam by their NatCan ND as part of a coordinated care plan.
Are these services covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage varies by plan. Registered Dietitian services are covered under some extended health benefit plans — particularly plans that specifically include dietitian coverage. Live Blood Analysis may be covered under holistic nutrition benefits depending on your plan. We recommend checking your extended health benefit plan before booking to understand your specific coverage. Receipts are provided for all sessions for insurance submission purposes.
